Ulundu Chutney / Urad Dhal Chutney


Usually we will prepare Channa Dhal or Toor Dhal chutneys, So the taste gets used to our tongue and gets bored. For a change we will prepare a nutritious Urad Dhal Chutney and give a little modification to our routine Chutneys.

Nutritional Benefits:

Black gram is a healthy pulse as it is rich in iron content and good source of protein in vegetarian diet. This helps boost the energy levels in the body and keeps you active. This is particularly essential for women undergoing menstruation who have a higher chance of iron deficiency. Consuming urad dal regularly, increases your energy.

Ingredients:
  • White Urad Dal/Ulundu - 4 tbsp
  • Red Chilli - 2
  • Tamarind - 1 seed size
  • Grated Coconut - 2 tbsp
  • Garlic - 1 pod
  • Salt as per taste 
  • oil - 2 tbsp
  • Channa dal for seasoning
  • Curry Leaves for seasoning
  • Mustard for seasoning

Method:

Take a pan add oil, once the oil gets heated add urad dal and saute for 10 seconds, it will get fried quickly then add red chilli, tamarind and coconut and fry for a minute. Finally add Salt and keep aside. Let it be cooled for grinding. Once it is cooled grind it, add little water and again grind till you get a smooth chutney. 


Ulundu chutney looks exactly like a Urad dal batter (soft and puffy - Wow!). Now its time for seasoning the chutney. 



Your tasty Urad dal chutney is now ready for having with Idly and Dosa.
