Green Peas Kachori / Matar Kachori




This is our favourite snack recipe which I often prepare whenever the green peas season starts. It is a North Indian popular recipe with a side dish of sweet chutney and green chutney. But Vyshu's all time favourite is Tomato Ketchup.

Ingredients:
  • Wheat flour - 1/2 cup
  • All purpose flour - 1/2 cup
  • Green Peas - 1 cup
  • Ginger Garlic Paste - 2 tsp
  • Jeera/cumin - 2 tsp
  • Fennel seeds / Sombu - 2 tsp
  • Red chilli powder - 2 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder - 1 tsp
  • Chaat masala powder - 2 tsp
  • Besan / Gram flour - 1 tbsp
  • Salt as per taste
Cooking Method:

Cook the green peas in pressure cooker upto 2 whistles. Smash it with potato smasher. Keep it aside.

In a kadai add oil, jeera and fennel seeds, let it gets fried. Now add green peas along with red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala, ginger garlic paste. Saute slowly in a medium flame so that it do not get burnt. finally sprinkle besan  and saute. Switch off the stove immediately. keep it separately.

  • Now  take both the flour in a pan, add salt, water, oil and knead the dough. The dough should be kneaded little harder, ie it should be stiff and not like normal chappathi or poori dough. It should not be too hard. If it is too hard, it will break while rolling. 
  • Make small balls and roll. Do not roll too much. It should be thick and not thin. Place the peas stuffing into it and wrap as shown and roll. Be careful while rolling. Do not give too much pressure. Else it will break and stuffing will come out and make a big mess.
  • Take a frying pan, add oil for frying. Gently drop the kachori in a frying pan and fry in a medium flame. Turn over to the other side slowly without disturbing the stuff. It will be in light brown shade and now the kachori's are done. Serve Hot.


Now a tasty evening snack for kids and everyone is ready to have with sweet chutney, green chutney or simply with Tomato Ketchup.
