Thinai / Foxtail Millet Sweet Kanji

Happy Maha Shivratri to Everyone

I would like to share this recipe which is given in temples during Shiv Ratri as Prasadam after the fasting is over. I prepared this recipe in my home and kept as Naivedyam in Maha ShivRatri Celebration. This recipe is very easy to prepare and it can be taken at any time as diet food as it is a healthy small millet recipe.

Ingredients:
  • Thinai/Foxtail Millet - 1 cup
  • Jaggery - 1 cup
  • Grated Coconut - 2 tbsp
  • Water - 4 cups
Method:

Saute thinai in a pan for about 2 mins. Add water and cook until it becomes soft. It takes about 10 mins.

Meanwhile prepare for jaggery. Soak jaggery in water and filter the dust and get a clear jaggery water.

Now the millet has completely cooked. Add the jaggery water to it and cook for some more minutes. Usually kanji consistency is in liquid state, so add enough water to it.

Add the grated Coconut to the millet and cook for about 2 minutes. Stir well. Switch off the stove.

Now your tasty and healthy Thinai Kanji is ready to keep for Naivedyam.

Notes:

You may prefer pressure cooker for cooking the millet.
You may alter the Jaggery quantity as per your requirement.
